2017 Fall Season, Recreational League Overview

          RECREATION LEAGUE OVERVIEW

Team Formation

Each year, Novato Youth Soccer Association is tasked with forming fair and equitable teams. With nearly 1200 recreation league players, our volunteer staff, form teams based on a blind draft using three criteria. The criteria for forming teams are: Player Ranking (if applicable), Grade/School, and Home address.

Special requests for team placement for the 2017 Novato Youth Soccer Recreation League season will ONLY be accommodated when the requesting families have committed to volunteering as the role of  Coach or Assistant Coach.

For example, should two families wish to have their players on the same team; one family would register family one parent as head coach, with family two parent as assistant coach. This would ensure that family one’s player, and family two’s player would be on the same team. There is a limit of two assigned positions to each team.

NYSA is focused on creating a fair, balanced and enjoyable soccer experience for all its players. Our goal is to create equally competitive teams with varying levels of player skill.

In years past, NYSA has honored Special Requests for team placement, and this has created an enormously complicated registration process, as well as unbalanced teams.

Team assignments are zip code based, with attention to grade in school and school of attendance, but attending the same school does not guarantee kids will be placed on the same team.  In the event of extenuating circumstances (i.e. medical necessities) a request may be made by attending an in person registration session and submitting a written request for review on a case by case basis by the NYSA President or Vice President.

Practices

Each Recreation league coach is offered two, one-hour practice slots at a pre-scheduled field. Most recreation league teams practice twice a week starting during the first week of August and complete practicing at season’s end.

Opening Day Play Soccer Celebration

Each year, Novato Youth Soccer Association celebrates opening day with its parade march around San Marin High School track. This year, the 2017 Fall Season opening day celebration will take place on Saturday, August 19.   Your team coach will review details of this event, approximately two weeks prior to opening day festivities.
