Dear Novato Youth Soccer Families,
While it might seem that Fall 2018 is far off in the distant future, NYSA is excited to be making plans and preparing for the upcoming Rec Soccer season. To allow for forming the team rosters and setting the schedule well in advance of the opening kickoff, we are moving up the Registration period one month this year.
The registration window for the Fall 2018 Rec soccer season just opened up and will run through April 30, 2018. There will be a late registration period from May 1 to May 15, 2018. One of the primary reasons for the earlier registration period is to allow ourselves plenty of time to gather our volunteer coaches and set them up for a great and successful season. With this in mind, we ask that you take a moment to give consideration to joining us as a Rec soccer coach for the upcoming season.
Coaching youth sports is a great way to be active in our community. Not only do you get to share quality time with your child, but it also offers a great opportunity get to know some of the wonderful families that make up our town.
And it doesn’t matter if you know the game, or have coached before. This year, NYSA is putting additional effort into supporting our coaches, so they feel confident on the field and have as much fun as possible with their teams. We will be holding free coaching training sessions, sharing age-specific practice plans, and providing coaching gear that will liven up your practices through our Coach Registration incentives program.
We also know that sometimes it can be difficult to commit 100% of your time to coaching a team, especially if you are unsure about making it to every practice or game due to work or other family commitments. In these instances, it is great to enlist a friend as assistant coach or co-coach. Not only do you get to coach together, but you also ensure that both coaches’ kids will be on the same team.
If you want help coaching but don’t have anyone in mind, not to worry. Every season we pair up coaches that don’t know each other going into the season, but who end up having a great experience together, teaching the wonderful game of soccer and making a difference in the lives of the players on their team.
NYSA has planned a "Soccer and Suds Social" at Finnegan's on Grant Avenue on Thursday, March 8 from 6:30-8:00 pm. If you are a returning Rec coach or are considering coaching Rec this coming season, come hang out with us in the back room while we grab a drink and casually talk soccer, coaching, and informally answer any questions you might have about coaching.
On Sunday, March 11, all returning Rec coaches and parents who are considering coaching are invited to join us at Novato High, turf field for a friendly pickup soccer game from 3:00-4:45 pm. Feel free to bring your kids to come out and watch the beautiful game at its highest form of expression! If you do not wish to play, please still join us, as all coaches who are registered by March 11 will be able to pick up their coaching gear bag at this event. Not only that, all registered and all considering coaches who commit to coaching during this event will be eligible for a raffle that will take place after the game. First prize is a set of portable puck soccer goals and three balls. Second prize is ten scrimmage vests and a soccer ball. All coaches who attend receive a whistle.
We look forward to assembling a great and dynamic group of volunteer coaches for the Fall 2018 Rec season. There is nothing more rewarding than turning a group of kids into a team, teaching life skills, sharing the love of the game, and building friendships for a lifetime. Standing on a vast field under the late afternoon sun, breathing in the crisp autumn air, watching your players laugh and go after the ball with excitement, what could be more satisfying?!
Please remember that the Fall 2018 Rec Soccer registration is OPEN NOW! When you register your child, please take a moment and consider registering yourself as a volunteer coach at the same time.
Thanks in advance! We look forward to seeing you on the pitch!
